TiVo box application hits UK
Android users with a Virgin Media TiVo box will be interested to learn about a new application which remotely connects the home media gadget to your mobile phone. It looks set to provide cutting edge access to Virgin’s well-received TV gadget. Versions for the iPad and iPhone are set to follow very soon.
The application certainly sounds simple, just choose your region and your package and you get to see what is available to view, both now and next. By focusing on a channel, you can see what’s on the whole day or in a particular week. It also remembers favourite channels, so you can customise your guide to show just those instead of the whole lot. A simple tap of the button allows the user to show or hide a channel.

But the application is not just a remote control, with the main draw being the ability to record on the move. By visiting the Remote Record feature, it’s easy to set up recordings through your mobile phone by logging in, picking a show and pressing record. This instruction then links through to your TiVo box at home and sets up the recording.
Early indications suggest the Android app in the UK doesn’t come with all of the features found in the US version, but there’s no doubting that this TV Guide with its ability to let you set recordings from anywhere in the world is extremely handy.
Virgin’s TiVo service has updated the established notion of the TV recorder box. Not only does it record the programmes you tell it to, it’ll also record programmes you don’t by learning from your viewing habits and making informed guesses. TiVo’s iPhone variant of the application has been enthusiastically received by the US market, and it’s highly likely that the UK will follow suit.
