The Battle of PCs Vs Macs
The Battle of the New Era

As intense as the war between BMW and Mercedes or the rivalry between Pepsi and Coca-Cola, the newest and biggest rivalry of this age is that between the PC and the Mac computers. In this technologically driven era, each one is constantly coming up with new ways to one-up the other and take home the prize of being the most successful and popular operating system.
A Brief History
For the longest time in the past the PC was top dog, outdoing its far simpler and more ancient competition which seemed to be fading into the pages of history. With more modern programs and gadgets in its arsenal, the PC almost wiped out the popularity of the Mac entirely back in early 2000. Then came Apple’s powerful campaign to re-establish the Mac as a staple in both pop culture and the modern home.
Since Apple began to revitalize the Mac, it has surpassed the PC many a time both in “cool” factor as well as elegance. Macs have become more sleek and user-friendly, as well as more compact and powerful than they have ever been. For this reason the race between these two systems has now become a nail biter.
Playing to Their Individual Strengths
Both the Mac and PC companies are aware of their respective strengths and capitalize on them effectively. The Mac is the leader in creative programs like Photoshop and Final Cut Pro, which are preferable for anyone in the media or entertainment industry. For this reason most advertising houses and filmmakers will not falter in their loyalty to their trusty Macs. The Mac creators also know that because of Apple’s iPod and the popularity the company gained through that little device, they have a solid place in pop culture and exploit that as can be seen in their “I’m a Mac” campaign.

Personal Computer on the other hand, are more adept at running word processing programs like office and word. Also, because they were on top for so long, most people and businesses are used to the way they work and will stay loyal for this reason. Most corporate companies will therefore have PCs in their offices as they are the most user-friendly and can run office programs the most efficiently. PC marketers therefore tote their products as a serious computer, rather than the more playful, juvenile Mac.
Who is winning the Battle Right Now?
For the moment, it seems as if the Mac is on top, owing to its pop culture appeal as well as the fact that it is the chosen product of design and media professionals the world over and that you do not have to buy any anti-virus software for it. This is probably why the new MacBook Pro MB990LL/A is the top selling laptop at present.
With its large screen display, sleek good looks, impressive video processing and output, and a formidable-sized hard drive, it is no wonder why it has gained the popularity that it has this year so far. Following close behind though is the new HP Pavilion DV6-2162NR. This PC is also pleasing to the eye as well as packed with a powerful 500GB hard drive, great entertainment capabilities and all the bells and whistles one could hope for in a modern laptop. With both sides turning out amazing products this year, it certainly seems as if this battle is far from over.
