“ Hacktivists” on the Prowl on Oregon University Webpage
Visitors of Oregon University’s System Web Site could not find themselves within the site due to the attacks of hackers. This repeated attack took over 90 minutes and redirected users to another site which was controlled and dominated by the hackers. There was this 89 word criticism based on the protests in Iran at this site. All these happened in the morning of June 25th in San Francisco.
In bold red and black the site read out “we never cheated in elections”. The message also included an invective that was aimed at President Barack Obama. It also made several derogatory comments about the leader Mir Hossein Mousavi of Iran. This oppositional leader claimed that the presidential elections held in June 12th were rigged.
This sort of internet attack has been reportedly a rare attack and the site resumed to be working normally 90 minutes later. The attack did not come with any harmful virus spread to one’s system or computer. Most hacked sites however are done with the purpose of virus or infection spread through system in this way. However the site appeared to be vociferous in a political way.
